Why do some trackers have ball movement and some do not?

Explaining the difference between trackers with and without ball motion.

When it comes to sports tracking, one of the most noticeable differences between event coverages is whether the ball’s movement is included or not. Fans often wonder: why does one match provide full ball tracking while another only shows player positions?

The answer lies in two key factors: the quality of the source and the event’s coverage level.

The Role of Source Quality

Accurate ball tracking requires a perfect source, most often high-quality TV feeds. These feeds allow our scouts to capture the ball’s position throughout the game with consistency. If the source is unreliable or incomplete, the ball’s movement cannot be guaranteed and is therefore excluded to maintain data accuracy.

Event Coverage Levels

Events are classified into different levels, each determining how much detail is available:

  • VIP Level – The most advanced coverage, with extended data beyond just ball movement. This can include additional analytics, advanced statistics, and enhanced insights tailored for in-depth analysis.

  • Gold Level – Always includes ball movement, as these events rely on strong, consistent sources that enable high-accuracy tracking.

  • Silver Level – Don't include ball tracking, but usually showing attaking team.

  • Bronze Level – Lower-tier events typically do not include ball movement due to limited or less reliable sources.

Why It Matters

Ball movement significantly enriches both the fan experience and analytical depth. It reveals the flow of play, passing strategies, and tactical decisions in real time. At the highest tiers, such as VIP, the extended data offers an even more complete picture of the game, making it invaluable for teams, broadcasters, and dedicated fans.
